Super Charged Up!

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Wow it was an amazing 4 days of soaking in inspiration and information! 66 delegates and about 30 trainers, helpers and speakers came together at the Charge Up! 2008 Conference last Thursday till Sunday. The excitement was contagious, as all pride was put aside, and we learnt from each other, whether young or old. I was personally impressed at the quality of the work that was presented at the end of the conference. Some delegates have had no experience at all, not even touching a video camera, but together with the rest of the team, came up with videos that looked pretty good! The photography stream had a blast of a time printing their photos and sticking them in albums. What I admired about them was that they encouraged and willingly shared information with each other as they viewed each other’s work. The delegates from the web stream came up with their own website design and managed to put it into html code. Amazing!

I learnt a lot during this Conference, not just about media skills, but also from the speakers. What Pastor Kenneth shared on Friday spoke to me, and I am challenged to pursue my dreams, to believe that whatever God placed in my heart will come to pass. It is, as Pastor Kenneth says, not easy to walk out of God’s will if your heart is constantly seeking Him in the first place. The film “The Killing Fields” that was shown on Sunday by Dr Goh really touched my heart too. I felt convicted that as Christians, we have an important message to bring to the people. With God working through us, the images that we create can be so powerful, to change hearts and minds. Now that we have the skills, what are we doing with it? What kind of images are we creating? What message are we highlighting?

I hope that all of you were inspired at this Conference too. Do post comments here to share about what God has taught you in this conference, and how the conference charged you up.

Open Sessions at Charge Up!

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

There’ll be seven sessions during the conference that’ll be open to everyone - the four Power Up! sessions in the mornings, MediaShowcase Night on Friday, and the streams’ screening & sharing times on Saturday & Sunday. Please refer to the schedule for exact times.

This is specially for those media leaders & artists out there who may not be into going for workshops this season of life, or may feel a little dry or even burnt out, or just in need of a good boost in the right direction. Do join us for any or all of the 7 sessions to simply be blessed! Drop us a line to say you’re coming, if you can. =)

We’re going to have 4 really excellent speakers to speak life into our lives during the Power Up! sessions - Pr Kenneth Chin on Thursday, Pr Sandra Chin on Friday, Mr Goh Keat Peng on Saturday & Dr Goh Chee Leong on Sunday. And for most of the worship sessions, we have the privilege of having with us members of 1 Accord Ministry. We expect that the time these servants of God spend with us will be really priceless. So don’t miss out on it… come and be charged up!

Proclaiming the Gospel with Media

Tony Anthony - Taming the TigerLast night, Grace and I attended a talk by Tony Anthony (he was World Kung Fu Champion for three years running) a charismatic man of God. He has moved up from being a prisoner in jail, to becoming a prisoner of Christ Jesus. He’s got an awesome testimony to share. If you can make it to SIB on Friday, 6 Apr 2007 (8pm and 10:30pm), or Sedaya College on Saturday or Sunday (7 & 8 Apr 2007) AND bring non-Christians, I urge you to go.

Anyhow, this man used multimedia powerfully in his talk. Two videos were shown by him, the first was about Dick and Rick Hoyt - illustrating the love of a father for his disabled son. It surely draws a parallel between God’s love for us. This was a very good visual aid used aptly, and not out of necessity or “cool-factorness”.

Read more about it here. The video is viewable below.

And the second was related to giving the altar call. It’s a video that was created by proclaimthegospel.net and you can see how it’s used here.

Electricity. A strong stable flow of it is important for the media & technical operations of a church. That’s why there’s usually a concern about how many power phases your audio visual equipment need to be sitting on; making sure the computers are hooked up with those “Back-UPS” boxes so that they don’t black out with black outs; ensuring there’s ample supply of batteries for your cameras. Basically, taking extra consideration and care for all the equipment that fall in the “high worry bracket” of getting short-circuited or not even powering up!

This should actually be true of the people BEHIND all these equipment as well — the church’s technical operators and media artists. For they too fall in the high worry bracket of getting short-circuited and not powering up! Without a strong stable flow of “electricity” channeling to & through them, the potential of burn-out and even complete losses altogether, is dangerously high.
