Songwriting Stream 2014
(limited to 20 participants)
The Songwriting Stream is aimed at amateur songwriting enthusiasts with a passion for making music. Participants will cover 3 broad areas:
- Why we write Christian songs
- How to combine words with music to express a message
- What can you do with your songs
Classes will involve interactive discussions, group participation, fun practical exercises and performances by Earnest and Mingli. There will also be daily ‘open mic’ sessions offering participants the opportunity to showcase compositions for constructive critique. Don’t worry - none of it has to be polished. This course is about writing songs and having fun, not performing. :)
Pre-requisites and what to bring:
No prior songwriting or musical experience is necessary. Also, it is perfectly fine if you do not read music or play an instrument. But if you are a musician, let us know in advance whether we can call on you to help the other non-musician participants with their project work or open mic sessions.
Those attending are encouraged to bring a portable instrument (eg guitar, ukelele), notepad, writing materials and a teachable heart.
Note: Admission preference is given to full-time workers and volunteers in churches & non-profit organizations. Please state your church/org name and ministry/department head's name upon registration.
